I Love America.

This blog is dedicated to my college roommate, Sarah Kathryn Eldredge.  She is currently finishing up her two year service in the Peace Corps in Ecuador and is coming home in May!  When I asked her what my next blog update should be about she simply said, "Why you love America!...because that's what I'd write about, of course."

So, Sarah...here's why I love America.  And other things.

I love America.  I feel privileged to live in this amazing country and am thankful everyday that I have the life I do.  I know how lucky I am to live here so I try to always be appreciative.  Even though I dream of living abroad someday, even for a short time, I love being able to call America...and more specifically...Georgia home.

Another reason why I love this country so much is because of our military men and women.  My step-dad, Court, served in the U.S. Army and my grandfather, Elliott Quattlebaum, served in the U.S. Navy.  I respect them and look up to them for their service.  I also appreciate the sacrifice our service men and women (and military families) make on a daily basis!  Thank you for all you do :)  Also, there's nothing better (in my opinion) that seeing a good ole American flag flying outside on a sunny day.

I love my grandparents.  They're awesome.  Period.  They are the cutest couple I have ever been around and I want a love like theirs one day.  They've been married for 53 years this March 7 and I am truly amazed by their relationship.  They sometimes play bicker with each other, but I know it's not real.  They adore each other and I adore them.  They are such strong, intelligent people.  GMa and GPa (as I affectionately call them) have been such a huge part of my life growing up and have shaped my life in so many ways.  They have been a constant source of love and support and are always available for advice, chit chat, or a hug :)

I love my best friends.  I have a high school BFF, a college BFF, and a family BFF.  They all know who they are and I couldn't imagine my life without them.  They have always been there for me as a shoulder to cry on, or someone to call me out when I need it.  Thank you ladies.  You are awesome.

I love my school friends.  I have made some awesome girlfriends while in graduate school.  These ladies are always there for a pick me up or a laugh.  The conversations in our grad school office are never boring and always make me smile.  I love the random texts I get from them asking me to meet them downtown for a drink on a random Tuesday, just because.   We're in grad school so we deserve it, right?  They are such sweet girls and I'm already dreading May when some graduate and move on.  We joke that one day we're all going to end up working together anyways, so maybe that will happen :)
*Elizabeth, I don't have a pic of you and I...but of course you're included too :)

I love my work friends.  Oh, retail.  You're never dull, that's for sure.  I have made some dear, dear friends while working in retail.  They make me smile after I've just gotten yelled at, threatened, laughed at, thrown pants at... :) You get the picture.  I turn to them for fashion advice (duh!), work advice, or just life advice in general and they're always there to help.  I truly appreicate their friendship and hold them close to my heart.  They're the spark of my job and I would have left a long time ago if it wasn't for them.

Some of my LOFT loves :)

I love Pride and Prejudice.  The movie, the book, it doesn't matter.  I collect different versions of Jane Austen's classic book and I just bought a copy in French!  However, if I have to be particular about a certain movie version it is definately the BBC version with Collin Firth.  He's the ultimate Mr. Darcy.

I love St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.  This foundation is one I fully support financially and in spirit.  I give to them several times throughout the year and believe wholeheartedly in their mission.  I love that they never turn a family away based on their inability to pay.  It warms my heart to know that my donations, however small they may be, are going to help children who are terminally ill.

I love Presbyterian College.  I do not regret for a second the school I decided to get my undergraduate degree from.  I went to a huge high school and was completly overwhelmed and uncomfortable on a daily basis.  So I wanted to go to a smaller school where I could really find a niche for me.  That's where PC came in.  My high school biology teacher went to PC and would always talk about it.  I decided to see what the fuss was about and instantly fell in love.  The campus is beautiful and the people are friendly.  I am proud to call myself a Blue Hose and cherish most (ha!) of my memories spent in Clinton, South Carolina.

Senior Year, Townhouse A4 :)
I love headbands.  I wear them a lot.  If it's got a bow, feather, or flower on it, I love it.  All three together is even better.  I have recently expanded my love for headbands to include hats.  I dream of the elaborate headpiece I'll wear to my wedding one day.  Le sigh.

Birdcage. Love.
I love dogs.  Okay, okay Brooke we get it.  You're pups are adorable and they're the best things in the world...Ha, okay! I know what you're thinking...BUT I don't want to stop at two.  I want four (as of now) and already have my next two planned out.  I want a German shepherd female, who will be named Ryan and a French bulldog named Roxanne (Roxy).  I am also not opposed to a shepherd or lab male mix who will be named Rhett :)  I have it all planned out.  I just need to get out of this tiny one bedroom apartment first...In the meantime I'll be happy with my Riley Belle and Reagan Belle.  Yes, they share a middle name.  Deal with it.

I love Braves baseball.  Growing up I played softball for nine years and fell in love with the Braves.  Since I grew up in Atlanta my family and I would always catch a few games at Atlanta Fulton Co Stadium (now Turner Field).  And of course when I can't be there in person watching them on TV is the next best thing.  Chipper Jones is my all time fave and I was so sad to see Bobby Cox retire this past season.  But I can't wait to see whats to come with my Braves and I know I'll be cheering them on all the way!

I love to read.  Honestly, I do.  I always have.  I think I was born with a book in my hands.  I remember being little and asking my mom and Court, "Can you guess what page I'm on now?"  And then feeling proud of myself when I can shock them with how far along I am in my Babysitter's Club or Sweet Valley High book.  These days my preference has matured and is vast.  I love everything from historical fiction to biography to Pride and Prejudice spin-offs.

I love being punctual.  And having it recriprocated.  I always wear my watch and feel naked without it.  I'm not wearing it as a fashion statement (although it is pretty...), I'm wearing it to keep me aware of where I should be and what I should be doing.  There's nothing I hate more than someone who is late.  I don't appreicate it.  At all.  If you're going to be late, the least you can do is call.  Or text.  I am always early.  No matter where I'm going.  I can drive to work in literally 2 mins and habitually show up at least 15 mins before my shift.  Just in case.  My manager frequently says, "Wow, you're so early."  And the only comeback I can muster is, "I know...I can't help it."  So, note to self: if you're meeting me somewhere, be on time.  Or at least text me you're running late.  Please.

I love Will and Grace and How I Met Your Mother.  These are two of my all-time favorite shows.  I can quote Will and Grace and watching it I always find myself laughing out loud.  Litterally.  Jack and Karen as a duo are my absolute fave.  Together they're histerical!  HIMYM is a new love in my life, and since Thanksgiving 2010 I've been completely obsessed.  I got season 1-4 for Christmas and had them all watched within 1 month.  Lucky for me HIMYM reruns come on TV about 3 times a day, so whenever I'm home from school, work, or school and work I can generally catch at least one of them.  They break up my day and make me smile.  Plus I have a slight crush on Niel Patrick Harris.  Even though he likes boys, I still love him none the less :)

Oh, Barney.
I love the fleur de lis.  The symbol of French monarchy and the iris.  I am instantly attracted to anything with a fleur de lis on it.  I have a small collection of fleur de lis items (plates, picture frames, statues, wall hangings, etc.) in my apartment and just can't get enough.  Besides being French, I think they look sophisticated and pretty.
